SAP VIM works in the following way.

First, an invoice that comes through fax, email,  or paper is scanned.

The scanned document is sent to the Archive Server, which is stored securely. A 30-digit alphanumeric number can identify the document.

Next, the document is stored in SAP VIM. This document is recognized by 12- digit hexadecimal number. This number is also known as the DP number.

The document is now sent to the ICC server, where the data in the invoice is extracted. For instance, the details such as vendor number, registration date, currency, address, etc., are precisely extracted from the invoice.

If there are no exceptions, the document is sent through MIRO.
