What is Polybase?

Polybase optimises the data ingestion into PDW and supports T-SQL. It enables developers to query external data transparently from supported data stores, irrespective of the storage architecture of the external data store.

Polybase can be used to:

1. Query data stored in Hadoop, Azure Blob Storage or Azure Data Lake Store from Azure SQL Database or Azure Synapse Analytics. It eliminates the need to import data from an external source.
2. Import data from Hadoop, Azure Blob Storage, or Azure Data Lake Store without a need to install a third-party ETL tool by only using a few simple T-SQL queries.
3. Export data to Hadoop, Azure Blob Storage, or Azure Data Lake Store. It supports the export and archiving of data to external data stores.
