Amazon CloudWatch is a monitoring service designed for AWS cloud resources and the applications operate on AWS. Amazon CloudWatch can be used to:

1) Automatically react to changes in AWS resources.

2) Collect, monitor log files and set alarms

3) Collect and track metrics

4) Attain system-wide visibility into operational health, application performance, and resource utilization.

Amazon CloudWatch monitors AWS resources such as

1) Amazon RDS DB instances

2) Amazon DynamoDB tables

3) Amazon EC2 instances

4) Custom metrics or logs created by services and applications
