Elastic IP address is a static, public IPv4 address that can be associated with any instance and can be moved from one instance to another within your AWS account.

With the elastic IP addresses, in the event of an instance failure, you can disassociate the elastic IP address from a failed instance and reassign it to an excellent resource.

Once you released the assigned elastic IP address, you cannot get it again. Amazon assigns an elastic IP address for your VPC from the pool of EIPs (elastic IP address).

Note: Amazon doesn't support Elastic IP addresses for IPv6.
