With pitchers and catchers due to report the week after next, the Diamondbacks are looking to expand their depth. Today, they announced a couple of former team members will be back at Salt River Fields this spring, competing for the opportunity to win a job with the major-league team. The most recent returnee is Jon Jay, who came to the D-backs in a June 2018 deal for prospects Elvis Luciano and Gabe Speier Yasmany Tomas Jersey. He hit .235 (OPS+ 68) over 84 games for Arizona the rest of the season, and spent 2019 with the Chicago White Sox. Bob Nightengale reports, he Dbacks will pay Jon Jay $1.5 million if he makes their big-league team with another $1.75 million in incentives in his return to Arizona.� Still seems unlikely...But it probably still more likely than Edwin Jackson. whol be looking for his eighteenth season in the majors. He played for the D-backs back in 2010, and I was going to be writing about him this week anyway. For his no-hitter in 2010 is a sure-fire candidate for our Single Game Performance of the Decade award. Since then, he has played for what seems like half the league. Last year, Jackson split time between the Blue Jays and Tigers, going 3-10 overall with an ugly 9.58 ERA. The team also confirmed the signing of catcher John Hicks and outfielder Trayce Thompson, to similar minor-league deals with invitations to spring training.
