An interface having a single abstract method is referred to as a functional interface. It is also referred to as the Single Abstract Method (SAM) interface as a result. It encapsulates a function as an interface, or, to put it another way, a function is defined by a dependent upon the type method of the interface, which is why it is known as a reference implementation.
