What are the four essential states of an activity?

Active – if the activity is at the foreground

Paused – if the activity is at the background and still visible

Stopped – if the activity is not visible and therefore is hidden or obscured by another activity

Destroyed – when the activity process is killed or completed terminated

The four states are:

  1. Active: The activity is at the top of  the stack, running in the foreground
  2. Paused: The activity is still visible but cannot receive user input events; it’s in the background
  3. Stopped: The activity is invisible and consequently is paused, and obscured or hidden by a different activity
  4. Destroyed: The activity’s process has been killed, completed, or terminated
