In most cases, you can change your health plan once a year, during the renewal period. If you have a qualifying event, such as the birth of a child, divorce, or loss of a job, you may be able to make changes to your health plan outside of the renewal period.

Employer-sponsored plans
If you receive a health plan through your employer, you will receive information from them, usually a few weeks before the time you are due to change to a new plan or renew your current health plan.

Check with your employer to find out when they hold Open Enrollment each year.

Review your choices carefully if your employer offers several plans. You might want to use a checklist to help decide which plan is best for you.

Individual & Family plans
If you purchase your own health insurance, you can change your plan during Open Enrollment.  Open Enrollment usually runs from early November through late January.  We will post the exact dates and additional information as we get closer to November, so check back often.

Other times you can update your health plan: Qualifying Events
Sometimes you want to make some updates to your current plan because your family has changed. Your health plan can allow you to do this when you experience what a qualifying event.
